 The boulder herd
« Thread Started on Feb 27, 2009, 6:53pm »

Group: Herd

Name: The Boulder Herd

Unclaimed Land #: 5 (Geera Scrublands)

Leader: Sapes

Ranks:

(1) Leader – This is the person who controls the pack. No-one even has any power that is remotely like the leader except sometimes the Grand Council. His word is law and all must follow it or face the consequences.
(6) Grand Council – This is a group of 6 dinosaurs that are all second in command. They are the voice of the people and sometimes with the help of the leader, decide what’s best for the pack. When it comes to the time of evaluations (see description) these people are the ones who make the decisions unless the Leader disagrees which results in a discussion and voting.
(5) Gatherer – The Gatherers are at team of herbivores who go out every day to gather food from the bushes and tree’s for the banquet at dinner time. For doing this job they get to snack on the collected food.
(10) Attending (warrior) – All members in the herd should be able to fight a decent amount, so there are no separate “Warriors” and “Members” because in this herd, they are fused. Attending’s have been members for at least 3 full seasons (full seasons = Dry season and Wet season) as you have to be a resident for 2 full seasons in order to be one. They are seen high teachers to guests and residence and normally have high fighting skills.
(Infinite) Resident (warrior) – Like above, they are expected to be good fighters. After 1 full season, a guest then gets to become Residents. Residents are full complete members of the park and are treated slightly more like colleges by Attendings.
(Infinite) Guest (warrior) – Guests are the newest members of the heard. They are not treated as full members so must be taught about the ways of the herd. They are expected to be O.K. fighters.
(Infinite) Young – The young of the herd are taught at an early about the rules of the herd and the ways of life. They have to stay near their mothers at all times.

Description: In the Boulder herd, the high authorities will always rule. Rebellions are never tolerated and will be crushed straight away to bring peace back to the herd. The Leader rules the whole of the herd, and his word is law so all must follow. High levels of respect must be given to the Leader, the Grand council and all Attendings for there contributions, time and effort put towards the herd. If not given respect, they will be sent to the Grand council to get a talking to and decide the punishment (can range for temporary ban from the herd to last to have tonight’s dinner.) All the high authorities must pay respect to each other as well!

For feeding schedules of the herd, there is always a light breakfast, then a light lunch and then finally a huge banquette for dinner which was gathered by the gatherers. The leader always gets the first choice, and then it goes the Grand council, then the attendings, then Gatherers, then Residents, then the Guests and young. Before they start to wolf down their herbs, the leader stands up and says a few words on behalf of the herd. Then they may eat.

The Young and Hatchlings are said to be very precious in the eyes of the herd and so must be looked after extremely carefully. As soon as they are born, if the mother is a guest, then the baby dinosaur is taken to either an Attending or a Resident to be taught about the herd. They are taught about survival, diet, other species of herbivores, vicious carnivores and all the parts of their body. When the hatchlings turn into Juveniles, they are then taught how to fight, using their horns, spikes, clubs, beaks and strength. If a hatchling were to die, a few members would be put on a task to find out why the hatchling died, then report to the ground council and bring the problem to awareness.

All dinosaurs ranging from Juveniles to young elders are expected to constantly be healthy and in shape for fighting. The main reason for herds is to survive against carnivores and if there isn’t anyone who is fit enough to fight, then there is no point in having a herd. When being attacked, the main objective is obviously to push the invaders back. The second one is two save all young and pregnant or mother females. So, if when raided, the herd has no chance of winning the rest of the herd shall flee, but the Leader and the Grand council shall stay and fight to the death to give the herd time to escape to a safe part. So the Leader is doing this not for himself but for everyone else. The leaders of the herd will be gone but the herd will still remain alive. The leader will always pick a successor from his heard, so that when he dies, that person will become the new leader. That person will then reestablish that herd and make it function again.

Adults should practice regularly at sparring to gain strength and battle knowledge so they are better in these battle situations. Another reason for sparring is to keep the herd busy and not get bored.

Every two seasons, things will take place called evaluations. This is where the grand council will overview the current status of the herd e.g. amount of members, health, and amount of food, how the herd is progressing. They will also individually look at other members to see if they are progressing at a normal or higher rate. If not, they will get one warning to shape up. If they are caught once more falling behind they will get another warning. If found doing it once more, the member will be banned from the herd. That member can only rejoin as a guest once more when they rehabilitate their problem and bring a gift of food to the Leader, if the leader accepts, he will take the food from the creature on the border and accept him/her back.

Elders are praised in the herd for the experience in life. Another reason for getting praised is because they know from experience a lot of battle knowlage, which will help with the herds survival.

Traits: “All members must be at least reasonably O.K. fighters and must be completely loyal to the leader of the pack”
